This is a very neat tutorial that demonstrates how to make a wine bottle light using short strand Christmas lights. There’s a supply list with photographs and clear directions on how to prepare the bottle and insert the Christmas lights.

After reading the tutorial and the comments, I had these thoughts:

Battery powered LED lights would burn cooler and you could use the battery packs as a base. That would give you more safety and the ability to put the bottle lights outside on a patio or in a garden.

I think that amber or blue glass wine bottles would look really nice for this project.

This is a great project for a couple of different reasons. First you can make these mason jar oil candles and store them as backup lighting in case you lose you electricity and primary lights. The second reason is that they would look beautiful at night in the spring or summer if you placed them outside on a patio or deck.

Ms Dawn includes a complete tutorial with a supplies list and clear instructions on how to make these oil candles. I really like the idea of using essential oils for scent. I also like the idea of using stones, pine cones and other items from nature in the jars. Be sure to scroll all the way down to see the photographs of different mason jar oil candles.
