This really is the best step-by-step DIY guide to building a stand-alone smoker that I’ve seen. I found it on the At Home Welder Website.

Joel used the Weber Smoky Mountain as his inspiration. He decided on a design that used two 55-gallon drums.

The article follows him through the process of building out the smoker. He includes excellent, step-by-step photographs. The final smoker looks like something you’d buy at a store! You’d need some metal-working and welding skills to make a similar smoker. But it’s definitely doable!
